Heroine Rises

'Mother's Concerns' Remaster

July 08 2021

Clarissa Harbour is forced to wrestle with the fear and pain of her past while remaining hopeful for her daughter's future.

The remastered version of Chapter 4: Mother's Concerns is now available to read on the Heroine Rises reader. Click here to start reading!

Past, Present, and Future

Clarissa Harbour is a woman shaped by loss. However, Madeline believes that her mother's fears and concerns are self-imposed. Madeline sees Clarissa's 'Give up, there's nothing we can do' shtick for what it really is: an act. Clarissa never gave up on her dream but pretended to do so to 'protect' her daughter... at the cost of Clarissa's happiness. Now, Madeline works to convince her mother that their goals are aligned and whatever happened in the past - serves as a lesson for the future.

Spoiler alert! Madeline was raised without a father for most of her life. Some years before the start of Heroine Rises, Madeline's father went missing after traveling to a mysterious location on the Serenity Island of Glacier Point. Clarissa Harbour attempted to locate her husband but realized that her efforts would only drag her young daughter Madeline into a world of danger she had no stake in. Seeking to protect her daughter from the call of adventure that took her husband, Clarissa has been a caring but overprotective mother. However, Madeline's desire to be heroic directly conflict with Clarissa's fears and one must give in.

Clarissa is a very developed character, even from the early days. Clarissa loves her daughter with all her heart but is a bastion of resistance and strength when needed. The conflict and caring between Clarissa and Madeline make it one of the more exciting parts of Heroine Rises to write.

Our Future

Looking forward, I'd like to finish Chapter 12 but I'd also like to wrap up the remaster project. Throughout the making of Chapter 4, I came up with plenty of ideas for other projects like SweetWater. If I organized my ideas, I could probably release a 'pilot' on one of these projects and see what happens from there. Either way, more Heroine Rises will drop next month. Whether that is in the form of a Remastered Chapter 5 or a fresh Chapter 12 remains to be seen.

Until then!
